Ace the Interviews Part 1: Resume Critiques + Mock Interviews
On September 10th, 2020, WIF introduced our two-part “Ace the Interview” series for the fall term. Part 1 focused on resume critiques and mock interviews, while part 2 will be a Recruiting Workshop. This event was designed specifically for students interested in pursuing a career in the finance industry. We had a panel of successful, smart, and experienced upper-year volunteers who sat one-on-one with students to help them tailor their resume and sharpen their interview skills to prepare for co-op job postings. Students obtained focused advice, and had the opportunity to create a gateway for a long-term relationship with an upper-year already in the finance industry.

Ace the Interviews Part 2: Finance Recruitment Workshop
For our Part 2 "Ace the Interview" Series, WIF held a Finance Recruitment Workshop on September 27th, 2020. This was a great opportunity for all students to learn more about careers in finance, how to network effectively, recruiting timelines, and resume and interview tips. Some of the topics we discussed included buy-side vs. sell-side of a finance career, finding connections, cold e-mailing, coffee chats, recruiting for different opportunities, interview question walk throughs, and more. WIF also held a Q&A panel with amazing co-op students who shared their experiences and provided their tips. |
Fireside Chat
On Friday, October 30, UW WIF hosted a Fireside Chat with our featured speaker, Monali Vora. Monali is a University of Waterloo alumna, and is currently a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs New York. She is the head of the Customized Beta Strategies, overseeing assets under management of $85 billion USD. This Fireside Chat provided an intimate setting in which Monali shared more about her career path, lessons learned, and the general finance landscape in New York. Students who aspire to be a successful senior female leader in finance or someone in a similar position as Monali was able to hear her perspectives and gain inspiration.
